Just running this past someone to see what they think ,,, been useing ten percent ethenol blend gasoline in my 410 FE and had some light ping at times so i tried premium 92 or 93 octane gasoline in it . drove home not noticing anything.Next day 410 runs like a diesel,(SMOKES ) wont idle good ,but will run ok on the road , so i tried a new power valve in the 600 holley , didnt help . Dont smell gas in the motor oil ,no noticable puffing out the tailpipe or intake or valve covers , choke is wide open , All i can think of yet is to drain out all the gas and put in fresh again and check compression just to see if i burnt a hole in the piston ,,, or gascap not venting ?
I can crack the throttle open and the engine rpms are right there and no lag so if anyone has ideas here feel free to message ,,, thanks

It seems to me that ethanol is tough on standard rubber hose, you might check hose condition, could have fed some material into the carb. Also you said it smokes like a diesel and then no noticeable smoke at the tail pipe? Does it or does it not smoke??
Blue smoke or black smoke?? BTW if your Holley was built after 1992 it has factory power valve protection. Do you have the plastic floats? Could be one has sunk causing rich condition, altho it sounds like accell is OK. Alcohol can remove oil film, it could be something has been damaged from lack of oil in the right place.
I'm far from an expert on the subject but was there any water or moisture in your tank before you added the ethanol? As I understand water makes gas and ethanol seperate and the contaminated fuel makes formic acid which can harm rings and cyl bores. This possibly is what may of happened. Like I said I'm no fuel expert but had a bud of mine ran into the same problem. Just a thought.....

good idea , only i have been useing ethenol blend ever since it came out on the market and the alcohol absorbs moisture and burns it so i dont think that idea works either , and this is a near fresh overhaul with 3 thousand miles on now ,,,

I'm still back on the basic things:
How much change in Octane? 85 to 93?
What color was that smoke?
It belches smoke at start-up. What about operating temp?
A compression check sounds good, read the plugs while you are at it. It's JMHO that the Ethanol is a non-issue. Put that aside and all you have left is the engine's mechanical condition and tuning. It could be a slug of bad (old maybe?) gas, but that's pretty obvious pretty quick.
i probably went from 85 octane ( super ) to 93 which is premium , and its a almost black smoke coming out of the tailpipe right at startup and is continuous ,the thermostat is a 180 and the heat gauge works/ shows the temp gauge at center so its in operating range . I am going to spray some starting fluid around the intake manifold gaskets to check for vacum leak then check compression first and if that is ok then drain out the fuel .
I was going to try another carburator on brownie just to see through process of elimination i could find problem when i see dripping fuel under the 600 holley ( second time it was off ) the first time it wasnt dripping fuel ,,, so i put in a napa renew carb kit and happy days problem solved . thanks for the ideas .
