While I don`t know for sure they do look very much simalar in size, doubt that any trimming would be needed. Best to check with a supplier. Even the tailgates 67/72 and 73/79 will interchange but have different body lines and profile on them.

The wheelwells are a little different(rounder) and the bed lenth is a bit longer by a couple inches I belive. I have Sb's I'm looking at, let me know if you need any measurments.

The 67-72 has smaller wheel housings as far as I know, external dimensions are very close from the mid-60s to the late 90s, I have used the same fiberglass cap on an 84, 69, and 88 F-250s, all fit the same.

Box sizes are nearly the same, wheel wells became a lot smaller in 73.

The wheelwells on 73-79 are molded into the floor and bedsides. I know the wheelwell dimensions are different than on older trucks but I don't know which is larger.

From the front of the bed between the cab and bed measured to the outside of the tailgate in the back of the 70 SB is 81" Same measurment on a 77 SB is 84" Thus the reason putting a 67-72 on a 73-79 frame or the other way new bed holes have to be made. There is a 3in difference in lenth. Fenderwells both extend about 8in into the bed from the bed lip and about 35in long. difference is the 73-79 is rounded on all it's edges which makes them smaller of a hump whereas the 67-72 has squared off edges and looks bulky.

So to answer you question you will have roughly 3 inches of trimming on the end and a little if none around the wheelwells if you center them correctly when cutting the ends off.

Rubiranch, Most mats are not exact fits anyway, but they sure do keep things from sliding around.

thanks John, my friend found a universal (retangular cut to fit) one in his warehouse that is 80x102". It is about 1/2" thick. It has been in their inventory for about 4 years and they want it gone. I think this will end up being my best chance for one that fits and at the best price.

I am going to use our 72 to tow our travel trailer and carry our ATV in the bed and some other camping stuff. I just don't want the dents and scratches. It will never be used for hauling junk or rocks or anything else, I have another truck for that.

Thanks again for all the help and info.
