More problems with this 460
Well, I got my friends 460 going, we took it for a spin, and first thing, its still getting water in the oil, I think thats a head gasket. After a few minutes, smoke started coming out of the oil breather, and we heard a weird clank/rattle/knock it sounds to me like its something in the valvetrain. This engine had sat for about a year, and when we got it, there was water in all the cylinders I have no clue how it got there, but we took out the plugs and got a ton of water out, and got it running great until this knocking. also I think that cranking it with the water in it blew the head gasket.

[font size="1" color="#FF0000"]LAST EDITED ON 28-Apr-01 AT 00:07 AM (EST)[/font][p]more often than not, the water comes in from a rotted timing cover,(the water in the crankcase that is) it erodes away around the water thru holes on each side. I think it is highly unlikely you could cause a head gasket to blow with a starter, if not impossible! I think the steam coming from the breather is the water getting hot enough to seperate from the oil and exit via the breather.

well, its not steam coming from the valve covers, it is smoke I think it at least smells like it. I dont know about that timing cover, it was replaced last year. There is still something mechanically wrong.
