Help Me!

How can I tell the difference between a 351C and 351M Ford Engine? Or are they virtually the same?

I have never seen this myself but there is supposed to be a casting ledge behind the distributor on a 351m. The block is flat behind the distributor on a 351c. I reason this to be, because both engines use the same distributor, but the 351m has a taller deck (block) and a wider intake manifold. It stands to reason you would have to step the taller block down to use the same length distributor as the shorter block (351c).

Easy way, the "c" is a small trans bolt pattern, and a "m" is big like a 460.

IF YOUR NOT LIVING ON THE EDGE, YOUR TAKING UP TOO MUCH SPACE

If the top radiator hose connects directly to the intake manifold then it is a W. If not, then it is a C.

The 351M takes a big block bell housing same as a 460/429 and the 351C (if produced after 1969) takes a small block bell housing same as the 351W/302/289
