I have a 3 sheave,3 bolt 351W crank pulley (part #C9ZE-C312-B) off of a 69 stang.
Because of the tight conditions in the early Bronco this is installed in, I need to get rid of the outermost sheave so the fan will clear the crank. (2.25" between the 4 core radiator and the waterpump flange)
The crank pulley appears to be constructed of three separate pieces.
My question is: Does anyone know if it is possible to separate the individual components of the crank pulley without destroying them or should I just have it turned on a lathe to "lighten" it up?
They generally are separate pulleys stacked together and spot welded...but what tough little welds! I've tried to pry them apart and mangled them in the process. If you have access to a lathe then yes, that would be a good way to go about it. You could cut that outermost pulley out from inside, at the hub.
The spot welds are what I was afraid of. Probably should turn in lathe to remove the surplus sheave unless I can locate a 2 sheave with the same offset/alignment.
Ebay has a guy trying to get $30 for the 3 sheave pulley and that is why I'm hesitant to destroy the one I have.
Thanks!
