I have a 1989 Ranger 2.9L that was stalling out on me after driveing for allmost 30 miles, put heet in gas tank first time and ran great for two weeks then started doing it again this time heet did not work, Change fuel filter, pump and hanger assy.,pvc, breather filter and TPS. Now engine idles at about 1700 rpm have checked everything according Haynes/Chilton manuals but still no luck. Please Help.
Pulled codes got 11 for koeo, and a 13 for koer, no continuios memory codes, rplaced vacuum lines to Pvc and Breather checked all others but RPM is still at 1700+ couls it be the control modual or according to my scan tool book aIntegrated vehicle speed control and if so where is it. Thank you.
KOER 13 is often not very diagnostic. Basically it means the idle was high during the KOER test (we already knew that).
Vacuum leaks are the most obvious cause of high idle on an EFI engine. Be absolutely certain you don't have a vacuum leak.
Check the idle air control (IAC) valve, sometimes called idle speed control (ISC). Make sure it's clean. Most of the time, a dirty IAC will cause a low/rough idle rather than a high ile.
