Is your Fordomatic problem continual, or just after the first start of the day? I don't know if this will help with your Fordomatic, but here goes. Mine is mated to a 55 272 with manual choke. For years, once I started it and let it warm up for a while, I would push the choke all the way in and then put the shifter over to reverse. It would usually make a big clunk and jerk the whole vehicle. Recently, I have found that it helps a lot to rev the engine after I push the choke in all the way. The engine idle drops slightly and the tranny doesn't clunk. I think that the position of the idle arm on the carb is remaining at a slight advance until I punch the gas pedal the first time. Try it and see if it helps your shifting. Jag

It's my understanding that there is in fact a pressure regulator valve and a vacuum modulator in the Fordomatic that could be effecting the shifting from park and nuetral.

I'll have to check this out to see if the problem gets better or worse through the day. Usually, I take it for a drive and back in the garage it goes for another day so I haven't really noticed.

I will try your starting tip Jag, and see if that helps.

Thanks guys.

Doug:

Keep us posted on exactly what she is doing and when. Just when cold or after its warmed up, etc. I am sorry to not be a lot of help as far as the older ones, but most of the general things still apply (to every automatic ever made).

I am new to the old trucks and don't have any reference manuals.....That sounds pretty funny when you read it a few times. New..to..old New..to..old New..to..old

My reference books only go back into the mid 70s. The ford books show C4, C5, C6, AOD, AOD-E, A4LD, etc. I also have a few on Chrysler and ch**y back to about the same time period. Nothing very old at all.
