I just took my 1955 fordomatic in for a leaky seal change out. I got a call from the shop owner saying he found an internal lever that needed to be replaced. I told him to do it even though the tranny shifted fine. He put the new lever in and then found that the rod from throttle assemble to the tranny was too long. He basically gave it back to me and told me to adjust the rod shorter until the tranny shifts correctly!! The tranny used to shift into 3rd at about 40mph. Now it's more like 50-55. Will the rod that is attached to the throttle adjust the shift point of the tranny or is it just there for the kick down?
I believe it will change your shift point also. It been so many years since working with the ole Ford O Matics. I'm not sure if you should shorten it or make it longer. But mark where it is and try one way and see what happens.
Just as a follow up, the problem is fixed. I tightened the linkage about six turns following several trial and error runs. Now the tranny shifts into 3rd at 40-45 mph and the kick down works great. Thanks for the feedback. Jag
