Paint

I bought a '90 Bronco several months ago and want to do a little body work and paint. I called the (used car) dealer I bought it from asking where he got it painted so I could get the same colour and he told me it was a stock Ford colour that was stamped on the plate in the door jamb. Well there is no plate in the door jamb and the 3 touch-up paints I've tried (from Lordco and Canadian Tire) don't match.

Is there somewhere that tells me what the colours and codes for 1990 full size Bronco's are? Or did this guy BS me and have it painted with another colour?

It is grey..almost silver. I have seen F-150's the same tone, but never a Bronco.

vin number

I believe that the vin number holds the info you need(as long as they have painted it using factory colors codes). You just have to get a chart that breaks the vin number down to read it If you get a lmc catalog or haynes manual it has the chart to break the number down. also alot of other useful info there hope this helps.

He's not BSing you about the door jamb plate, there should be one and it would list the paint code. Maybe it was removed when the truck was repainted. Obviously can't say if he's BSing you about the color being factory or not, though. If it was a total repaint it may have been whatever color the paint shop had at the time.

Here is a VERY GOOD place to buy your paint/touch up whatever. No kidding these guys are outstanding in their customer service, and their product is also very very good. They even have a chart so you can figure out exactly what color your truck is. The numbers on the chart correspond to the numbers on the information sticker in the door jamb, but there is also a color chart.

Check them out.

Thanks for the help.

The pimp (used car dealer) was full of shi*, the truck was painted a non-Ford grey as "close" as they could find. The sticker in the door jamb was removed by the pimp, he had a $150 Maaco job done on it. I found the Maaco receipt and they told me.
