I changed oil in the 4.2L today after 10,437 miles on the lube. At approximately 5,000 miles I changed the filter, FL400S and added approximately a pint. When I last changed the oil I installed a magnetic drain plug from a place in Texas that advertises the strongest magnet on the market, which I believe to be true. This plug came with a metal washer/neoprene gasket that to my surprise was quite loose, but not dripping oil. Also, the magnet had virtually no debris attached to it unlike the transmission magnet on my Honda.
I do not know if it is the combination of good oil and filters but I did expect something to be attached after this mileage......As you can expect, I reinstalled the oe drain plug.....what say you!
I didn't expect obvious metal particles but did expect something resembling what I see on the Honda transmission plug. That being the case, what is their purpose?
The purpose of the magnetic engine drain plug is to lighten our wallet & cause the sellers wallet to take on the weight of our GOLD!!!!! lol
I've had a good strong ferrite TWT magnet attachd to my old 78 Mercury Zyphers drain plug for over 25 years & have never found anything attached to it, including "fuzz"!!!!
May be useful in a tranny or differential, or transfer case, ect, though.

I'm in total agreement....When I trade the truck I should hold out for another $30.00 for this worthless plug!
