I think they're the same length, but due to the torque placed on them flywheel bolts are a highly stressed item. They're tough little buggers but are pretty cheap so you could go ahead and replace them.
Be sure to put sealer on the threads as the holes in the crank hub are through-drilled and you could get a nice little oil leak there.
If you're swapping to an auto, you'll be needing a flexplate and bolts, rather than a flywheel. Make sure you get the flexplate with the correct tooth count and counterweight rating.
Didn't mean to offend. There ARE people that ask questions like that, that don't know the difference, that's all. I'm really surprised TigerDan let that one slide, actually- he's such a stickler for details.....
thats ok, im actually a pretty good tech w/15 yrs. exp. i shouldnt have put that up there misspelled. first time doing a 302. did i see the post right its fully drilled?
Me, a stickler for details? Relaxed, laid back, easy-going me?
Well, I guess a few things slide past me every now and again...I was thinking the terminology was backwards, but I guess I got distracted with something else at the time. That's what's so great about you guys, I know I can count on you to get my back! (Well, except for the ocassional guy who's busy twisting that knife in it!)
And yes, it's through-drilled.
