First of all sorry if this has already been asked, however I couldn't find a similar post and I looked all the way back to October last year.. (and 'search' only works on all Ford forums together).
Can anyone recommend an alternative brake pad for the front discs on a '03 Escape XLT?
The problem is excessive brake dust. I have had enough of it! We have the larger brushed aly wheels and only a few days after washing the car the front wheels start to get stained really badly with brake dust. If you dont wash it for a month, they become black.
I actually play poker with a Ford mechanic who specialises in Escape front ends but even he couldn't recommend an aftermarket brake pad for our car.
There must be someone out there that makes Escape brake pads that don't have the dust problem! ?
I put Raybestos Quiet Stop (ceramic) pads on my 02 Escape and the dusting issue stopped. The OEM rotors are pretty much disposable too - they ususally wear to where they can't be turned by the time your OEM pads wear out. I just went ahead and replaced rotors too with some Raybestos PG Plus rotors at the same time. Around $150 in parts.
Then I totaled the Escape and now I'm back to dusting pads on an 05 Escape until I grow tired of the dusting again.
I used Raybestos PG+ semi-metallics and they are low dusting also. The dust that there is, is tan instead of black. They seem to stop just as well as the OEMs.
