We've run onto 3 leaking lower coolant hoses in the past month.
All of them SDs with a 6.0. It seems as these trucks age the lower hose begins to sag and comes in contact with the steering linkage, which then rubs a hole in the hose.
Just something ya'll might want to check when servicing your vehicle.
Thanks for the heads up HB. That's why I like to service my own truck. I give it a good inspection for things like this when I change my oil. Again, nice heads up.
I'm wondering if a little mod would do the trick. Say cut a section of radiator hose and then zip tie it to the radiator hose at the location of the potential wear spot to act as a wear shield.
Quite some time ago there was a discussion about this hose rubbing on the steering arm. I have briefly searched for this in the past but, to no avail. It's around here somewhere.
I believe it was Choctaw Bob and a couple of others.
I used silicone tubing. Cut it. Covered the hose. Then zip tied it secure. No problems....have seen some evidence of rubbing but, not due to aging.
From memory, there was never a TSB put out for "rubbing lower hose", but a new hose and part number was engineered and available.
Mine was fixed/replaced under warranty due to rubbing on the steering box.
Here is the part number my dealer printed on my ticket (verify and confirm on your own as my dealer could have made a mistake)... but no more rubbing though!!!
Part #: FMC-3C3Z-8286-AJ
Hopefully, someone else can confirm this part number as the new lower radiator hose (have no idea of old part #).
