Rear-End help

Gentlemen,

I have found a 9" donor for about $175 out of a 73 Ford Truck....now can i transfer the shoes and wheel cylinders to the other rear-end? Kind of new at this and don't want to jack it up....just had my original rear end done with new lines, cylinders and shoes...and that was about $125 there....also the bolt pattern is 5-5 i believe....there are not 5 by 4-1/2....so this also means i need to get rims....is there any way easier to get better highway gears then switching out the dana 44 rear-end.....my numbers on the original rear-end
are 1068818 or B198981 USPA1 10bolt....hopefully someone here can decipher this for me and tell me what I have as gears...also what kind of splines do I have........HELP!!!!!!

James

also found 121B3 2169 on the long tube side of the housing

First of all a rear end from a 1973 Ford will be too wide. You want 72 and OLDER. So I would stop right there and look for a different rear differential. Also the original bolt pattern should be 5 on 5 1/2- which is also what a 73 Ford rear would be, so if somehow you did find a way to use it you shouldn't have to switch rims. I would not expect the brake parts to be transferrable.

okay.....went back to the j-yard and they found a 1957 ford 9" that was in really good shape...quote me $175 for the whole entire thing....the brake cylinders and shoes dont interchange...went to a rear-end shop....quote me $450 for the upgrade to 3.54 gears in my ol' dana 44....need a new case - $158, rap - $173 and new mk - $116...think its a good but that's way out of my budget for highway gears...but they did sell me a good used tailgate for $95 bucks....it only needs to be sandblasted and repainted...so the day was not a total lost after all...still would like some input on what i should be really paying.....
