Rear brakes locking up

I have a 92 F-150. The rear brakes lock up when I first start driving. After a while it goes away. I looked at the brakes: the axle seals aren't leaking or anything. The shoes look good. I sprayed them down with brake cleaner and sanded them a little, but it still does it. What could be causing this?

It sounds like your proportioning valve or your master cylander isn't releasing pressure. Check out those items

The rear brakes on my '95 are starting to do the same thing. When I first release the parking brake, the brakes are still engaged. I "rock" the truck a bit, just letting the clutchj out a little, and the brakes pull it back and then release, and then they work fine.

It's too cold out to go look at them now, so I've stopped using the parking brake .

Also, if your area is wet and freezes at night and you leave your parking brake on it can freeze in place.
