I just traded off my 2004 F350 CC SB 5.4 4X4 W/ 27000 miles for a 2003 F250 SC SB 4X4 7.3 6spd w/ 49000 miles. It cost me 500 down and 30 dollars less a month. What a huge difference, I really don't mind shifting. Gotta love that extra power. I can't wait to see how it pulls my trailer, going riding on Sunday get to try towing it for the first time.
What are some of the best "Bang for the Buck" Mod's I can do to this truck.
I will post a pic Monday all loaded up.
do a search on pre-pump mod , tank mod , HPX and
Kiwk filter. all totether around $200 and one evening work.
You will think you have another truck. It will run smooth as a gas
motor ,and very quite.
For a measley $1600 u can upgrade your turbo to a Garrett ball bearing unit
and get incredible sound and response.
For about $120 u can get an auxillary tranny cooler for towing.

Aw, come on! The BTM and 10k mod are VERY cost effective mods - unlike the BB turbo, which is a great mod, just not cost effective.
And you are right about the tranny cooler to eliminate excess tranny heat - but a Sonnax valve kit is just as important to reduce heat production.
Which would I do first... maybe both. The only reason I haven't added a cooler to mine is that I haven't done any towing. I'll be putting a cooler in before summer, since I anticipate towing this coming summer.

His statement:"What are some of the best "Bang for the Buck" Mod's I can do to this truck."
Some might consider the BB turbo qualified for this statement. He didn't say "cost effective".

Ooooh, Vancouverpower! Now you're talking. I only bought an auto because I needed a truck and the only manuals I could find were dogs - this auto was in excellent condition.
Basicly, I hate automatics, but the majority of PSDs have automatics, so I ASSUMED you had one. The 6-speed is so much better - unless you want to drag race, then, not so hot.
If/When my 4R100 gives up the ghost, a 6-speed will take its place.
Gauges, gauges, gauges!! First and foremost. At least an EGT gauge. Once you start modding the truck, you'll need to be able to monitor those things so you don't have a melt down.
To add to the list, a 4" exhaust, not just a muffler helps a lot. Look at the first few items in my signature and run some searches on them. Basic, easy, and effective. Be sure to ask if you have questions.
And, welcome to the forum!!
Hey, Thanks for all the replies. I am planning on the exhaust (4" MBRP or similar) it looks like it has the stock exhaust with a flowmaster muffler (YUK) but I am not to sure about the intake. With the quik air mod don't you get alot of hot underhood air? Also I would like to mount guages in a different location than the A-pillar. Are there any other kits that don't look like dogmeat?
one last question, when cold and idling my truck sounds like a hoover shop vac until i touch any pedal then it goes back to normal. Is that normal.

A 4" exhaust will help with egt's along with the Kwik Mod open element intake.
Don't worry about the underhood air temp...it doesn't seem to be a big concern or problem according to all who have the set up. The "shop vac" sound is the ebpv closing to assist in engine warm-up.

Dont want to cause a stir here but yes the Kwik filter mod DOES suck in hot underhood air. These engines need as cold air as you can give them. Being from the cooler Northwest, maybe it'll be ok for you, but where I live, if I have one of those on my truck, I'm sucking in at least 200 degee air in the summer, and I dont think thats optimal air temp performance-wise. Look for cold air intakes or the AIS system. Sorry Kwikfilter users-no offense.
