I have a 1995 Ford F-250 7.3 liter Diesel. We use it mostly in the summer to haul our 5th wheel. It starts but won’t accelerate. I have a “check engine light” and the Overdrive on/off light flashes. Any ideas.
No code reader enless you are doing it often and want speed. Just get a paper clip and a note pad and read the article at www.fordfuelinjection.com and they will show ya. Its easy I promise.
when you say "it won't accelerate". do you mean it is slow to accelerate, that it takes forever to get up to speed, or do you mean it won't accelerate, like as in it will start but only idle no matter what i do, it almost feels like the gas pedal is not hooked up??
Hi Tom,
it almost feels like the gas pedal is not hooked up?? Exactly. I spoke to Ford today and they said that this is a very common problem. It is in the rheostat in the accelerator pedal assembly and that I should try pulling on the wires or tapping with the end of a screw driver and if that temporally corrects the problem, replace the pedal assembly. I been tapping and pulling but no joy.
I am trying to buy a meter to read trouble codes. In the 1995 Model there can be one of two options. OB-1 or OB-2. Ford says the way to tell that if the meter connector is inside the truck at the base of dash, about where your knee would rest, it is an OB-2, if it is under the hood it is an OB-1, and I would have to take it to Ford as the Meter is very expensive. I am not finding the referenced 16 pin black connector in either place.

Thanks ! What a great site. I guess you know what I will be doing tomorrow. I will let you know of any progress.
Ummmmm - just on a side note - ya gotta be really careful about posting up little gems like this - "I been tapping and pulling but no joy" - it really opens up the field to a lot of "free reign interpretation"
Did ya get the codes pulled? what are they telling us?
Mike,
I know that I’m not the sharpest tool in the drawer, but I have gone to the site you have recommended and have looked for the mentioned test points in their referenced locations and they don’t seem to exist on my truck. They are supposed to be aft of the hood hinge. There just aren’t any connectors in that area. I located some much lower, closer to the rear of the engine but upon inspection they don’t look anything like the type of connector references in the diagram.
Oh CRAP!! Is my face ever red - so sorry Dude - I completely bypassed the fact that yours is a diesel burner. As such, I have 0 experience or knowledge to offer you with respect to your troubles. I apologize for jumping in without reading more carefully.
