97 E-150 Door seals

I have a 97 Conversion Van, 35K miles. I have air noise at the top of the door on the drivers side, which I thought was due to the window ventshades. I took the vent off, still had the noise. I was able to pull a piece of paper around the entire gasket on the top, without much resistance. I now have to assume either the door is not aligned properly on the body, or there is a problem with the rubber gasket. Any suggestions on how to have this fixed right the first time around? Thanks!

If the gasket looks good, try adjusting the top hinge on the door. Mark it first so if you can't do anything with it you can return it to the original position. Try tilting it in a little. Make sure the latch works when you are done. You could also add another gasket around the top. Most parts stores have them. They just glue on.

Take and use some rubber rope caulking, we call it rope dope in the shops at school. It looks like black rubber strips, very sticky, build up behind the existing seal until it closes up. The teacher did this to his drivers door 10 years ago, no noise and everything is still in place.

My first guess was to adjust the top hinge as well. It appears, the rubber seals are not hitting the door frame properly. Due to the extreme cold at the moment and no garage, I stopped at a hardware store and got some foam insulation, I put one strip each where both inner & outer rubber seals are. It didn't stop the noise, but it did make a pattern of where the rubber was not contacting the frame, on the top. Will have to work on this once it warms up. I am interested in the rubber rope caulk, any idea where to buy this? Since the door seems to fit the body pretty well, I may try the rope first, or replace the rubber seal, depending on what that costs. Appreciate the feedback. Thanks for the tips!

My teacher just stole it from the body shop which is down the hall from his classroom. He said that all body shops worth talking to should have it and that you would most likely be able to just stop by and ask for some. It looks like super sticky black strings of rubber.

First tried some stick-on weather seal, did not work. Finally took the van to a local, well respected body shop. They adjusted the door, and still have lots of wind noise. Will have to replace factory rubber seal when it warms up and try again.
