temp controls stay hot. help!

hey guys i have a 88 f150 5.0 the problem is the heat selector will not go to cold the lever springs back to hot. i can move the lever to cold but when i let go it just goes back to hot. what could be causing this and how do i fix it?

That lever should be going to your blend door, which lets outside air in. When you move it to cold, does the temp change? You will probably need to get in the dash and see what has hung up.

no the temp stays hot i even put a small screw to keep it cold and it stays hot. what is going on?

Sounds like that cable mounting came loose.

is the cable behind the dash? do i have to take the dash apart? or can i get to it from the engine compartment?
