I have a 93 Areostar with 4.0 L , 131 K miles without distributor. It was running fine until last week. It started to stumble at idle and at highway speeds. I have not done anything to this truck since I bought it 2 yrs ago. So after reading your threads, I changed the following: plugs, wires, O2 sensor, throttle position sensor, and idle air mixture sensor. The plugs were Autolite double platium and the wires were 8MM of good quality. After all this the engine has alot more power, and runs OK on the highway but let off on the pedal and the engine starts to miss badly. I was going to pick up a code reader at the auto parts store but the guy asked me if the check engine light was on, and it wasn't. After I put the throttle position sensor and Idle air mixture sensor in, the engine light came on. I am ready to give in an take it to a shop, any ideas on what else to do ?
Thanks
You don't need a code reader to pull codes on an EEC-IV system; a jumper will suffice . Details can be found in the tech info sticky in the Ranger forum. And yes, pulling codes is the next step. When posting them here, make sure you identify if the code is KOEO (key on engine off), KOER (key on engine running) and/or CM (continuous memory).
