66 steering options?

Does anybody know of a shorter steering column that would bolt into a 66? It's a 3 on the tree, but I have no problem with converting to floor shift. Also, is there a way to get a little faster turning ratio out of the manual steering? Would a swap to a smaller diameter steering wheel work? Any ideas? It's going to be warm enough to get out in the garage soon and I don't quite have enough to do, yet.

Smaller steering wheel = higher steering effort. Not advisable without first changing to pwr steering.
For that, use the search button. You'll probably get 20 pages of hits.

I didn't want to hear that. I really didn't want to do the power steering thing, for some reason I like the "Armstrong" steering. If I was going to run a 460, I'd do the conversion, but with the 240 that's in it I don't see the need in it. Oh well, I guess I'm stuck with the bus wheel for now. What about a column mod/swap? I'd prefer not to go with aftermarket since they all use GM harnesses and that just leads to modifications of my harness which will lead to something else and on and on and on it goes. I don't like senseless extra work, it makes me grumpy.

Did swapping the wheel give you some more room for things like your torso? I've got a little bit of a gut, but I feel downright fat getting behind the wheel. And no jokes about laying off of the burritos, either.

dont worry no jokes here but yeah i definately think that it gave me a roomier feeling while sitting behind the wheel. and the best part is that its an easy change to make all you need is a steering wheel puller and less than an hour.

The column's 2"-2 1/4" shorter after the firewall mount, the same length in the cab. A beer gut is your auto pilot or steering damper.

wadda mean we're out of beer? .....=o&o>.....
