Why is it when someone sees the light at the end of the tunnel does somnething always come up? Last night as my truck was warming up to go home I noticed some coolant leaking on the ground....nothing major...but enough to investigate. Well I couldn't find a leak but definatly coming from my truck the hoses had coolant on then. drove home...very carefully and watched the temp....nothing out of the ordinary....Still full rad. scheduled a coolant pressure test....and of course the problem.....the radiator is leaking at the the top tank.....and to my suprised, it was already repaired there. Well a new rad where i live will set me back 720$CAD plus labour....a rebuilt one about 350$CAD....DOES IT EVER END?
Let's say my wife is not happy....so far I've put in since I bought the truck:
2 new batteries,
transfer case yoke and seal
full tranny flush and diff oil change to synth
Air filter/fuel filter (twice) bad fuel that I got in North Dakota driving up
wipers, wiper fluid pump
brakes...front and rear
glow plug relay
a headlight lens clear kit (they were yellow like....well you know)
and now radiator
what needs to be done:
heater control panel...broken
windshield...big crack in it
radio stopped working
Downpipe is not sealing properly
and all the High Perfermance stuff too.....I've only had the truck 1 month
Have yours repaired. If it can not be repaired a good radiator shop can put a core on your top and bottom alot cheaper that a new one. Just remeber, for everything that you fix, it is one less thing to break later, also NO BIG NEW TRUCK PAYMENT. I have put SEVERAL thousand into my truck, but that is still less spent than all of the payments on my wifes (new when we bought it) 2002 F150. Total on purchase of the truck, fixing the little things, doing upgrades, new paint & interior etc. $11,000. When we get through paying for the wife's (just three more payments) $32,000. And I don't think her truck will be going strong after 16 years.
REMEBER: It could always be worst: You could be driving (repairing) a Chevy.
I purchased my '96 new for $35k US; it had 9 miles on it and I put all but 0.2 of those on during the test drive. Since then, I've put 2 sets of front rotors on, a new A/C compressor for $1250, one new tranny for $4200 installed, one rear-end rebuild for $3000, a new torque converter & front pump for $925, a new turbo for $450, a set of injector harnesses, 2 sets of glowplugs, 2 water pumps, one fan clutch, one radiator, half-a-dozen windshields, and MANY sets of tires. That doesn't count the performance mods. It now has 387,000 miles on it and is still pulling strong. I see no reason to dump this for a $800/month truck payment. Oh, and if your radiator is cracked near a fitting, use a goodly blob of J-B Weld epoxy; it'll be as good as new.

That's right. If you don't make a truck payment they come take your truck away. If you don't have a truck fixed that's broke and paid for it will still be in your driveway next month when you have the cash to fix it. I will drive any vehicle I have until it's used up. That's a long time where they don't use salt on the road! Two PSDs ringing in at 250,000 each, an XTerra at 150,000, a Saturn knockin' on 100,000's door and a Nissan PU w/185,000. Oh yeah, the Harley with about 90,000.

I should own stock in that company. I fixed my radiator with it. Still holding fine after several tens of thousand miles.
I forgot to add....power sterring pump....then hoses. But after spending 9k on the truck all these repairs will add up.....so figure a new F350 should not have to worry about those repairs until the warranty is over....and a new one should still last as long...so it all works out in the end.....
I'm still happy I bought the truck....but honeymoon is over hahahaha!
