I have a 99 F-150 extended cab and today I started having problems with the door ajar light not going off with the doors shut, I have searched the forums, went to the FAQ page and I understand spraying the WD-40 into the latch but I dont know where the latch is, is it toward the back of the door where it would make contact with the rear door?? Any and all help would be appreciated.
If it is like the F250- you will find it in the middle of the rear door. Need to remove the door panel to get at it. I need to clean mine also. On my truck you can see it with a flashlight around the gap of the switch "trigger" that the front door contacts.
you shouldnt have to remove the door panel just spray liberally into the door latch it is the piece at the rear of the door that latches on to the door post
dog2580,
Insert the thin plastic nossle from the WD-40 into your door lock cylinders (where your key goes into) and spray liberally. Spray ALL latches and ALL door lock cylinders, on ALL doors. This should cure your door-ajar blues.

Yep you are correct, I don't know what switch thingy I saw in the rear door is. Anyways I just oiled the the drivers door latch and all is fixed.
I bought the truck today and the door ajar light is on. I tried WD40 and it did not fix it. Not sure if this is related but the interior lights (in the doors) and the cargo light stay on until I get up to about 30kmh. They go off at that point but the door ajar light stays on. Also, when I exit the driver's door the interior and cargo lights stay on. I quickly learned to exit the passenger side but that's a pain. Any suggestions? Thanks

Give the WD40 another try. Follow the directions in my earlier post....you've got nothing to loose, if it fails then move on to other troubleshooting ideas.
My Sable had the door ajar light and the dome light combined like you. Took 5 minutes with WD40 and all was cured. Be sure to spray ALL doors and latches and lock cylinders liberally...soak em good. Work your key into ALL door locks after spraying. Update us on your progress...good luck.
I am a locksmith now for 30 years and I recommend a product called TriFlow instead of WD40. We use it all the time. If you you lube the locks before washing it will help prevent freeze up as well. You can also use it to lube latches as well.
Never locked out is for web site for our Hitch Safe Key Vault. Tri-Flow can be purchased from most locksmiths or possibly a hardware store. We also sell it and ship it usually by the case. It is about $8.00 for a 3.5 oz can. If you really want to try some and you cannot find it locally. We could ship you a can. Just a note though, shipping one can is almost as much as the product.
