302 MAF conversion, headers?
Now the MAF system uses one O2 sensor per side. Some people either wired both O2 sensor wires to the single stock O2 sensor where the pipes join up on the first cat, or use that one and add another on one of the pipes. I think these solutions are misguided since the computer requires this information to be correct- and from the correct location- in order to adjust the mixture.
I noticed the manifolds I have have bung holes for what I assume is O2 sensors? Is that right? Can I put sensors there?
I'd like to install header pipes, lower resistance and aren't prone to cracks. But I don't see any bung holes for sensors on the pics I saw. What, do we just drill out the pipes and install a weld-in bung?
They should be installed about three inches downstream from the point where all four pipes on that side come together, so that's pretty close to the header outlet.
Your O2 sensors will be further away from the harness and probably won't reach, so it would be a good opportunity to replace them anyway. The sensors with longer wires (15-16") are:
Standard- SG40
Bosch- 13953
Echlin- OS204
Borg Warner-OS116
Niehoff- FE821
Tomco- 11042
NGK- 22013
Wells- SU235
KEM- 138-130
Of course, this is all for long-tube headers. If you use shorties, the sensor wires should still reach.
