Greetings all. Here is the vehicle I'm working on:
1987 Ford F250 XLT
4x4
351W
C6
Front is TTB
I blew a u-joint apart in the front/right knuckle area. I took the wheel and manual locking hub off the truck. Now, I know I need a special spindle/lock nut socket to remove the hub/rotor/bearing assembly. Here's the problem:
Went to Advanced Auto Parts and got the socket they have listed for my truck.....does not fit. Not a large enough diameter.
Went to Napa Auto Parts and got their suggested spindle nut socket. Again, same size as above......not big enough!!!! It has the 6 tines but the diameter is shy by about.....1/4 of an inch maybe?
The guy at Napa says this has happened to him before. Could this have something to do with me either having a Dana/spicer 44 or Dana/spicer 50 in my truck? I read the 50 is optional. However if I have that, where can I find the proper lock nut socket?
When Napa shrugs their shoulders, you know you're in trouble......... steve.mcnulty@esph.com
Thanks!
When looking for sockets the specifications don't go by axle type but by vehicle range. I am hoping someone has run into this problem and can give me a source or part number for the right socket. The only BIGGER socket I've been able to find is a 4 tine version. On mine, I count 6
