I have a 95 f350 4x4 crewcab with a banks ottomind chip. 35 inch tires and just installed 4.11 gears but the tranny still shifts into high gear too soon. What's up?
Does the ottomind have tranny programming on it? he stock transmission programming is very "old man pulling a fiver" friendly. You'll probably wnat it reprogrammed or install a shift kit to keep the line pressure up.
The ottomind does not have any trans. programming. It will shift into 3rd way too soon.It does it no matter how heavy your foot is.It will hold a shift only when its cold. And when its really cold it takes a while to shift period. I've noticed on the really cold days it takes a while to shift and as your running down the road at about 50 the rpm's go up and down a couple hundred until it warms up.Also why is it that the voltmeter shows a low charge when first started and after a couple minutes of driving it shows a good charge and the lights brighten up?
Cold oil makes higher pressure. Sounds like a sonnex valve/tricumulator spring would fix you up. Better shifts with stock programming, and only about $50 in parts.
I would guess the low voltage deal is probably your glow plugs switchng off....they draw an enormous load.
The cold weather romp is pretty common too....maybe tru a lighter weight oil or a synthetic.
also when cold the PCM won't lock the toque converter till its warm, you could be noticing this when it is still cold as the engine will be able to rev alot with out any more speed, it will shift gears but you wont see it on the tach.
The sonix valve won't change his shift point though. thats all in the programing
also where are you located I would be willing to send you one of my spare PCM's with the TDE1 code, see if you like the shifting/all around driveability better.
I was gunna PM this but can't http://www.dp-tuner.com/contact.htm scroll down to the bottom of the page. He is a GREAT guy and will be able to do excatly what you want.

ottominder is a pcm chip not for trans. i also have banks chip but i have the trans command.. it firms up the line pressure to prevent slippage and firmer shifts.
but what speed or rpm is too soon??? most are 42-46mph in OD..

sounds normal too me, it will shift lazy when stock and mostly when cold, mine was this way exactly before i got transcommand.. most use the sonnax.. it will not go into OD till the EOT is high enough.
they still shift into OD, just the Torque Converter wont lock.
OD shift is 35 for mine if I am nice, closer to 45 if am more then half throttle.
third ususaly at 30, maybe 35 if more then half throttle, they also lock the TC at the third shift which might be why it feels like such an early shift.
Its all in the programing, and its VERY easy to get what you want with these trans and there shift points.
