Transmission Shifting Funny

My truck is a 99 Ford F-250 4x4 ext cab with 274,000 miles on it. The transmission is a Ford HD4R100 with 74,000 miles on it installed at the dealer. Have had 7 trouble free years out of the transmission. Over the sat few months I have been towing my cargo trailer and my camper quite regularly. Normally I don't have an issues or it every now and then. But lately it's been cranky. I flushed with a new filter and Mercon V last fall. So lately if I am driving unload load or not it doesn't seem to want to **** into 4th gear. Will wind out without a shift, I have to let off oh the gas to get it to shift, almost like it's cold or something. And the other thing is when towing its shifting way to early. It's shifting too soon and then gets bogged down since it is pulling a trailer. Very frustrating. I am leaving for Northern Michigan on Friday for a camping trip and am hoping to figure something out before then. My truck is stock tuning.

Get the codes read. The places that read them free can't read these codes. You need either a good independent shop or a Ford dealer.

There's no check engine or tow/haul flash. I know your a tranny guy though so that means there could still be codes? Can I get them with a A/E?

Well I hooked up the AE and this is the first time I have used the Giotto version and it will not read the codes. Says my truck isn't obd2 compliant and I have to run onboard tests. I am gonna have to do some research and see what's going on.

Is there a learn thread on how to use the new Giotto version? Not a fan so far.

There could be codes. You don't have a tow/haul light on your truck to flash. The OD OFF light can flash, but there isn't a tow/haul light. That didn't come until the 6.0L in 2003.

Sorry I misspoke on the button. I knew it was a overdrive on/off. I was under the impression that if the tranny had codes it would flash. I also understand that there is such things as soft codes as well. I am trying to get my new version of A/E to work and read the codes. I am kinda afraid to pull my camper with it now. Afraid something is gonna happen while I am out of town.
