Unhappy Warn hubs different depth

Just installed a set of the Warn Premium Hubs on my '99 F350. As everyone seems to say on here, "there was nothing to the installation". Once I put my 'Hub Caps' back on I noticed that the Warn hubs were not as deep as the stock ones and now I have a space between the hubcap and the hub. Not sure I like how that looks and it seems like a place for snow, mud, stuff to collect.

Any one have any solutions for my pet peave?

Look in my gallery, there's a pic of the Warn's with the stock beauty covers...

Does the cover look like yours?

I remember a while ago seeing a write up on cutting the cover and using the snaps of a F-150 lugnut cover. I can't find it now. Anyones else remember seeing that?

You know, I had a gap at first too, but then pushed on the cover a little more (actually slapped it) and it went on further.

Not sure if that's your problem or not.

There is a change in the wheel-bearing/hub around the 3/99 date. I wonder if that's the difference.

BWOP,

My saga with this situation is documented here: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/s...d.php?t=407619.

Unfortunately, I have not had time to pursue any fix. I'm still not happy with it though. I assume you probably have the stock lariat wheels, which are thicker than other factory wheels, thus causing the spacing issue. The aluminum modulars and steel wheels are thinner and match up perfectly.

If you find a good solution, please let us all know.

Good point, I remember something about the Lariat wheels causing the problem.

I have the steel w/chrome rims, so they fit perfectly.

Thumbs up

I'm thinking that the gap problem is the Aluminum wheel thickness. Krewat has steel wheels and the Warn hub looks really good. I have the factory aluminums and have the gap. I was also concerned with snow and other crap getting in there. At this point, I'm goung to start looking for some chrome lugnuts or something and just lose the cap. Unless you guys come up with something. If you do, let me know. If I do, I'll pass it on. Thanks

Yes, it's the thickness of the rim.

The stock hubs stick through the hole in the cap. With the difference between the steel and aluminum rim, you don't really notice the difference with the stock hubs.

What would I do faced with the same problem? Lose the cap, get some chrome lug nuts and call it a day

You could even paint the protruding hub with silver/chrome paint if you're into that sort of thing (I'd probably do black).

I was doing a little messing around last night. For a quick CHEAP fix, most likely temporory, A piece of 4" pvc barely fits on the face of the Warn hub. I'm thinking that if I bevel the inside edge of the pipe a little to get it to fit a little more snug, I cam paint it black and cut it to about7/16" or 1/2" and once the cap is installed, it will stay. In theory anyway. At least that will keep the hubcap from getting filled up with mud and snow. My next thought was to cut out 3/4" from the top of the cap height, plastic weld it back together and get it rechromed. Just my Ideas, I'll let you all know how it pans out
