Question

How to test my trailer light plug?

I'm getting ready to pull a trailer about 600 miles and when I bought the truck it had a 4 prong trailer light hook up on it. How can I test it to see if there is power going to it?

well hook up the trailer or use a volt meter and test each prong.

the turn signal needs to be on or the brake pushed to get a reading on a volt meter, also the turn signals will flash 12.whatever volt dc off and on with the signals

You can also use a test light which is really easy to use

I ended up going to a local farm store and they had a test plug with LEDs on it. I just pluged it in, turned on my lights and flashers, all LEDs were lit. I'm glad I don't have to go rewire it.
