has anyone heard of enviro safe?
a local shop heard about my R-12 score, and wants to trade me $750 and a 50 lb cylinder of enviro-safe for the 2 1/2 30 lb cylinders of R-12.
he said you do not need a license to use it,and it is an exact replacement for the R-12, but i never heard of it.

It is actually better than R12 and a lot better than R134. Is use based on hydrocarbon gas and very efficent. They reason it is not EPA accepted is because it is considered a flamable thouch it will not auto ignit tell well over 1000 degrees and it cannot burn in your system because there is not air and you car has a far bigger fire hardard from your fuel and it will break down harmlessy in environment in about a year too. Again the ONLY reason it is not EPA approved is because it is hydrocarbon based atherwise it is great stuff and gets along well with either refridgerant oil and weight about half as much as r12 and usie less HP to run system and get better cooling because of higher heat capture abilty. Heck I have heard of some even using straight propane in A/C's in cars and getting good results.
i have envirosafe in my 75 f-150 right now. it works great! it is less flammable than r134a and when burned or inhaled will not kill you like r134a or r12.
Considering the resources of Ford, Gm, Chrysler, Toyota, Nissan, etc what do THEY use and Why?
If some other mixure worked, they tested it, and failed it.

In its native state R12 will not hurt you at all and while is is poisonous when burned it will only burn in a open flame and will not burn on its own while r134 will burn on its own and it is quite deadly in either state.

well, with a 9,000lb truck, that you almost need a ladder to get into, if i get hit hard enough to set the refrigerant on fire, i don't think i will have to worry about breathing it. but the people that respond will will have to figure a way to get my 300 lb fat butt out of the wreckage and into a body bag.

You do not have to get is a wreck to have a leak. In 1999, the Air Force conducted a test to check the effects of R134 into a passager compartment with limited air flow. It nearly killed the subject and they stopped further test. Dupount which owns rights to R134 was quick to disregard test. I find it amazing that the EPA not approve refridgerant (enviro safe) that they say is flammable and aproves one that is flammable and poisonous (r134a) where as R12 was not harmfull to humans in native state.
i want to hear from someone how personally knows someone that was hurt, poisoned or burned by r134a. 1 have used it since 1992 and never had any of the problems that i hear about on this site. no my uncle's brothers friends but one on one knowledge.

Use it is a enclosed space and it will kill you because it is toxic plain and simple. Like any toxic gas, in good ventalation you are fairly safe but it is toxic none the less. You can do a internet search (I do not have link handy) as the AirForce test info is out there.
I use it in my 1991 Dodge Shadow ragtop. It cools down to 41 degrees on a 95 degree summer day with the top/windows up in August here in MO. In the Shadows 34oz capacity AC, designed for R12 refrigerant, I flushed and pulled a vacuum for about an hour, to get the moisture/old oil out of the system, that had been open to the atmosphere for a few years. Used new barrier type hoses. I only had to use a fraction of the R12 required amount....of Envirosafe refrigerant and alpha+ universal oil. I did the R134a service port fitting swap and used my R134a manifold gauges. I don't recall the exact pressures but they're way lower than either R12 or 134a and it cools as good if not better than the original R12 and alot better than the less efficient R134a refrigerants! I think I only had to use like 14-16ozs in the Shadows system. There are some states that ban its use but retro-fitting the service ports with the R134a fittings skirts that I think. The "BIG LIE" that the public has had crammed down their throat about R12 depleating the O-zone is just that....a "BIG LIE". It was conjured up to benefit big buisiness at our, the publics, expense. Last I read R134a was shown to cause testicular cancer too! With the Envirosafe type refridgerants there's more propane released into the atmosphere collectivly when we light out BBQ's in the back yard than if every vehicle with the propane mix refridgerants were vented. Live stock methane affecting the Ozone etc., etc. Now, I know the penguin/tree huggers are going to dispute it so ....FLAME ON!!!!!!!!
Howdy, I stumbled on this site while researching refrigerant for some of my old r-12 airconditioned vehicles. I read with interest the discussion on Enviro-Safe r-12 and think it may be a solution to my problems. I was also doing some searching on other sites about ER-12. Does anyone know whether AC shops handle the installation of the ER-12, specifically in northern California? How do I find a shop that handles ER-12? Or, will I have to do the work myself? Are there kits with instructions? Thanks,

You will not find a legitimate shop with a certified technician who will install ER-12 since to do so would be a violation of federal law with steep financial penalties.
