Question axle "wrap-up"

What exactly is axle wrap-up? How do you prevent it?

Rats!, I seen the post and figured on seeing some good pictures of someone wrapping their springs around the axle. Nothing like Raw HP.

It depends on how you mean it. In most cases, it means your springs will warp when you really get on it. Think of a pencil with a piece of paper tapped to it, then twist the pencil. When you really romp on it, and you have a lot of torque, the springs will try to do this. Stiffer springs can help, but make the ride harder. Traction bars can help, but not if your going off road. All depends on what your goal is with your vehicle.

Awww, I thought it meant when you get 100 feet of baling twine "wrapped up" on your axle.

The bad part is the spring will then unwind and wind again causing wheel hop and the wheel hop will cause more axle wrap, traction loss and is hard on the drivetrain.

You can also use spring clamps for a little more of a stealth approach (a little more off road friendly as well). I used 2 on each side on the front portion of the springs on my Dakota, mounting one about an inch from the axle perch, then another an inch in front of the first. It didn't have bad wheelhop to start, but it still made a good difference.
