This is the first truck I have ever owned and I love it. It cost 1000.00 and is all original. 129000 original miles on the 351M. Just have a couple questions. It has the 4 speed manual with the granny gear. How hard and what tranny would I need to use to put a 5 speed in it. I also want to replace the seat what years can I use that would bolt in with the least headache. I would like to use a newer bench seat with the fold down console in the middle. This website is great and havent stopped reading for about 2 days now. Thanks guys.

Check out the tips and tricks thread at the top of the page for seat info. The transmission is an $$$ problem.
Im not sure about the tranny question but all seats from 1980 to 1996 (97 for F-250's) will fit in your 77. The 97's and up will fit too. Im not sure how but some guys on here have done it.
I have a 78, and was wondering the same thing. Here is what I found.
All the 5 speeds(OD) I could find were one piece Trans.(Bell housing attached) You would have to convert it over to a Hydralic clutch as well. First gear(granny) is almost like normal 1st gear in a car. It does not have the low reduction like the one you have now.
Other options I looked at, but did not investigate seriously were an add-on OD between the Trans and Transfer Case. A complete custom bullet proof trans with OD. Both options were out of my price range.
