Air flow around the compressor is important since it is that cool tank/receiver that condenses most of the water. The belt drive compressors are less noisy than others. Most of the noise comes from the air intake on the compressor. You could run that outside and annoy the neighbors, -or use baffles and sound deadening around it. Use large diameter pipe to extend the intake.

my closest neighbor is a 1/4 mile, the next is over 2 miles away so no worry about annoying the neighbors, lol.

we have a campbell hausfeld 60 gallon compressor, with a cast iron 3hp motor. The air lines are just standard copper pipe. a new one is about 700 bucks+/-.
