Anyone else affected by the winter and gloomy weather? It gets to me after a while. I miss not having to wear a jacket, driving with the sunroof open, the birds chirping, and most of all, the sun. This is the worst part of the year. Its the winter doldrums. Its at this point where I start hoping for better weather, but then I realize that its at least 2 months away.
I actually don't really mind the dark, the snow, or even the cold most of the time.
Only time that it really gets to me is when the truck needs work. Something as simple as an oil change becomes a major inconvenience, and anything big is nearly impossible for me to do. (I'm at college, and the only place I can work here is the parking lot. If I can put off the work until I get home, I have a garage that is so small and poorly lit that I need to leave the door open and the truck hanging out so I have light and room to move.) The whole thing ends up being rather depressing- a truck that needs work that I should be able to do but can't, and can't afford to pay someone else to do.
I actually find the heat in the summer to be as big a problem, and it doesn't get all that hot here. At least in the winter I can sleep comfortably...

tell us about the summers up there in Fargo (both weeks of it ). Seriously, all I know about Fargo is from that movie (a good movie, but I have no idea how accurate). Maybe talking about spring and summer will make you feel better. And you can enlighten us Southerners about REAL cold- and what you all do in the summertime up there. For instance, bet you don't swim as much as we do. On the other hand, your fishing is probably a bit more varied...

I am up in Fargo for school, but I live in the Twin Cities, so its kinda close. We usually hit the lakes around the end of May, and all the way into September if it stays nice. The summer is absolutely beautiful. I love driving through the backroads and seeing all the trees. Even better is waking up with the sun shining on you. As far as fishing goes, I think that all fish hate me. I can never seem to catch any so I usually end up just relaxing and hanging with friends while pretending to fish. Even better is working on the car when its nice out.
The movie Fargo was actually filmed in Brainerd and the Twin Cities believe it or not. Still a good movie though. I have a couple of buddies who are up here for the first time from Florida and Georgia. Lets just say that they were shocked when the snow first started to fly. My buddy from Florida says to me "y'all are ******* crazy" for driving in the ice and snow. Granted, he was driving a LT1 Camaro with drag radials. Even though the cold sucks, spring makes it all worth it.
I made that statement a week ago at work. After 37 straight days of rain, people were getting really cranky. By Friday I was dodging usually cheerful managers- people were bouncing off of the walls. The sun came out for a few days and Viola! everyone was fine again.
Snowing today here- kinda pretty. My golden was so excited he was bouncing up and down like a kangaroo.
The weather goin from 13 degrees in the morning to 40-65 in the afternoon gets to me. Not to mention me being couped up in school for a really really long time. Starts making me lose my patience and sanity. I won't have relief from this loss of patience or sanity untill December of 07, then i'll be one happy camper.
P.S. The cold weather seems to make the days longer to me.

Now, didn't that make you feel a little better? I know while reading it, I was mentally putting "Go see the Dakotas in the summertime..." on my list of things to do in my lifetime.

We've had a week of clear, sunny days with temps getting up into the high 60s/low 70s, and it's been rather nice after all the rain. I don't mind cold, I don't mind snow, I don't mind rain if it's in moderation but two almost solid months of rain without more than two dry days in a row gets a little old. It was enough to put me out of work and that gets pretty old too.
But now the temps have plummeted and more rain, possibly even snow is forecast by tonight. We'll see...
Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. I always look forward to spring, but summer around here really gets to me. Too dang hot to get anything done, the heat just sucks the energy right out of me and all I want to do when I get home is shower and pass out on the couch. Gonna have to find a place with a better climate to live...!
I'm working on a truck project today wearing old jeans and a Tshirt. It actually got down to 35 degrees for a short time last week but quickly went to the 50's. Winter skipped Texas this year and I don't miss it at all.

If only I could work on the car in jeans and a t-shirt. *daydreams longingly*
It is 12:15 here and 68 degrees. We usually have some snow in winter (which melts quickly due to temp and residual heat) and occasionally some ice (which makes it like keystone cops because few have a clue how to drive on it), but this year winter (and rain) just stayed away. I'm wishing for some of Bear's rain but I'm not missing the cold.
