Hey guys, I just purchased some Bilstein Shocks for my 86 f150 4x4 that has a quad shock system on front. What is protocol for shock placement? Does the auxilliary shock go in front and "regular" shock rear of the coil spring? Also mounted boot up or boot down?

thank you!!

I run my shocks boot down so any dirt that makes it through won't be resting on the shaft seal. I can't tell you which one goes front or back, but I wanted to get in on this thread so when someone does post the answer, I'll get the email.

The shocks should only go in one way as there is a stud on one end, and bolt hole on the other end. The 2 shocks on the front are different, the one that goes in front of the axle will be longer, and oddly enough is interchangeable with the rear axle shocks. The shocks that go behind the front axle are shorter. There is only one way to mount them, so it's pretty hard to screw it up. Technically the rear shock is the normal and the front one is the aux. If you had to you could run without the front shock, I would just hate to waste a nice option like that.
