Great site! I am getting the P0316 code on my 2003 2.3L. I read a posting from a person with a similar issue. I am not as well versed in auto repair as most people on this site, so the answer was a little Greek to me. Could someone please walk me through what I should check next. I did disconnected my battery and changed my plugs last weekend and am still getting the check engine light after about 100 miles of driving. I will say that I did check the Ohms on the plug wires and they did fall in the correct range. I will fore warn you that I noticed the check engine light as I started to hear the engine ping when the rpms were at about 2000. I didn't hear it before or after 2000 rpms. I changed my airfilter thinking it would eliminate the check engine light. It didn't, but the ping went away and the filter was absolutely filthy. I hope I didn't jump around too much. I would appreciate any help you can give.
Go to the technical information at the beginning of the forum and look for the link on how to clean the MAF. It helped some on the problems that I had. May help on yours. A good place to start.
Also go to autozone or advance auto parts in your area and ask them to pull the codes and then post them here. There a lot of very knowledgeable people here that can help with diagnosing the problem.
The only reference that I can find for a P0316 is for a misfire in the first 1000 revolutions. There is a technical bulletin about this using reformulated gas when over 50 degrees, but this is for a 3.0 L and not the 2.3 L. Good luck, over my capabilities.
I cleaned my MAF and after about 50 miles the check engine light came back on. The truck does seem to run a little smoother, but when starting the truck it still idles down rough. When I drive it for even 50 feet it will settle down. If anyone has any ither suggestions I am listening,
