Just wondering if any of you guys have ever rebuilt a C6. I know that you need a low reverse clutch spring compressor. Anyone have any input on how difficult it is?
I had never done it before but It's actually quite easy. I bought a Haynes manual and it takes you through the procedure step by step. The only special tool that you need is the compressor. It's only about 30 bucks. Just keep everything in order and very clean. Get yourself a couple cans of brake parts cleaner or some other solvent for the reassembly. When installing the forward clutch piston with the new seal it may not want to go in. Just take a feeler gauge and slip it into the edge and while applying just a little force work the feeler gauge around the seal. It will drop right in. Don't force anything. Use petroleum jelly on all your seals and lubricate everything with ATF. Good luck
I am in the process of puting my C6 back together.
I didn't need the compressor like I have heard.
I even built one but ended up not using it.
I just got the assembly back together this last weekend and am finishing up on the valve body.
So far it went pretty well.
There is a good manual on e-bay for the c-6 for around $15.00 that would be worth picking up.
I had a Haynes to work with and it was OK but not the best information.
I would also suggest looking for a sale on brake clean because I ended up using around 9 or 10 cans to clean everything.
Broader Performance has a good hypo rebuild kit and they build torque converters for a decent price also.
Like Steamir said.
Take your time, Keep everything organized and make sure everything is clean and lubed with either atf or petrolium jelly.
Good luck.

A good rebuild kit will come with all new brass coated end plates.
Check all of the bushings and make sure there isn't any wear in the pump.
I had to replace my pump gears because of PO installing the torque converter incorrectly.
Need to make sure the converter is in all of the way.
Do not attempt to pull the tranny up to the motor with the bolts if it doesn't go flush on it's own.
You could break the pump doing it that way.
I installed a new input bushing and all of the rest of them looked good on my tranny.
Replace all of the steel O-rings. A good kit will have them too.
There is a spot on I think the direct drum that could have wear from 2 steel O-rings. The drum will have to be replaced if the wear is too much.
Mine was in tolerance and I was able to clean it up with emery cloth.
I am at work and will confirm which drum it is when I get home if you need.
I'm just about ready to put mine back together too. So far, the hardest part was getting it out of the truck. The thrust washer behind my park gear was torn to little shreads, I don't know what caused that, but oh well!
I broke one of the bolts off that holds the pump into the housing, I'm thinking of just leaving it off. There's still six other bolts to hold it in. What do you guys think? does it need that seventh, or should I be good with six???? I'd hate to have it die after all the work of getting it out!
I'm putting the low ratio planetary in mine while I'm at it. Hope it works well.
All in all, I don't think its a hard transmission to rebuild. Not worth paying a shop $900+ to do it for ya.
I am using a rebuild video as well, found it on eBay.
