Ive been worried about turning on the heater and havent done so untill i had a chance to try it at home in case the truck died on me i could have it already home instead of at the mall or something.
well recently its been cold enough to warrant some heat in the cab only . . . it barely gets past "not freezing"
it doesnt heat up as much as it should. it seems as iff i only set it to the halfway point. what could be going on? could this have anything to do with my thermostat being broken(possibly--unconfirmed as of yet) or the temp gauge on the dash always being at cold? your thoughts please . . .
Temperature gauge always cold? Barely past not freezing? Sounds like a thermostat to me. That's the first place i'd check, along with a coolant change & flush. Good luck!
John in Rochester NY (where it's currently a balmy 32 degrees - warm for february!)
I agree, it does sound like a thermostat, but check your coolant level first. If there is insufficient coolant in the system, the truck will blow cold/barely warm air even after its warmed up.
Tsk, Tsk, Tsk. And here I always thought that it never got cold enough in Florida to even warrant having heaters in your vehicles! Up here in Alberta the forecast low for this coming thursday is -30 deg. BRRRRRRRR.
It sure sounds to me like your T-stat is fubarred and in need of a replacement. You should also probably plan on refreshing your anti freeze mix to a 50-50 or thereabouts. You will also need a new rad cap 'cause if your old one isn't holding pressure your motor will never warm up properly. Don't forget to check you rad hoses and your heater hoses as well in case they are showing signs of deterioration.

Here in Florida we freeze when it drops below 70*
I had a similar problem once and it turned out to be my heater core was plugged up and had to be replaced but I would check the Thermostat first like others have suggested.
thanks for all the help guys. i know the thermostat has GOT to be bad cause when i squeeze the top rad hose i can hear it moving. . . like its in their sideways or something lol
oh, i dont know if this helps or could be related or if you guys have any ideas what causes this but my top radiator hose collapses in on itself. kinda like a straw in a thick milkshake that doesnt suck up the milkshake but it just collapses in on itself you know what i mean? whats the deal there ya think?
I've kinda got the same problem going on. I've oned for trucks before and the hearts use to work awsome but now I have a 5.0 93 and i have a new thermostat and got the radiator flushed, helped a lil but still the heat is horrible. Never get hot or even warm for the fact. The temp gague goes to the "o" and "r" and then the t-stat opends and drops a lil below the N. My air condition doesn't work either.
How do you check the heater core? Or is there anythign else, I'd love to fix it if i could.
