98 explorer driver door lock problem

98 explorer driver door lock problem
I have a 98 explorer ( eddie bauer ), the driver side front door lock will not lock.
If you use the button on the passenger side front door it will lock, or if you use the key fob it will lock.
I changed out the switch with a new one from Ford. Did not fix it. I also took the switch from the passenger fron door & tried it. This did not fix it either.
I can't imagine the new swtich is bad since the other didn't work either.
Any ideas, I need help on this one ?

not quite the same, but very similar was the issue with my 97... I had a broken wire somewhere in the harness... the post that helped me solve it is at

it was the post from duke-bearnie that got me all fixed up...hopefully you can get some information there about how the wires run (98 should be like a 97).
