ignition timing & vacuum

can anyone give me the degrees to set the timing on a 78 302 engine, and also how much vacuum should my gauge be showing? Thanks for your help, Charlie

Disconnect the vacuum advance from the distributor. Set the timing to 8 degrees Before Top Dead Center. Then reconnect the vacuum line. You should get somewhere between 5 and 20 inches of Hg depending on engine speed.
