I have a 74 f250 hiboy, I took the old pinion seal from the back axle to the parts store to get a new one. the parts guy said he did not have the right one in stock. he also said the book has the axle down as a spicer 60 not a dana 60. I am almost positive it is a dana 60. also how can you tell the difference betwwen a dana 44 and a 44hd. On mine I have front drums, Two bearings one on the top and one on the bottom instead of kingpins. I also have the powerstearing with the save cylinder betwwen the tierod and the axle
First thing is I would find yourself a new parts guy. He should know that when it comes to rearends a spicer 60 is a dana 60 and vica versa.
Second on your front axle, Sounds to me like you have a closed knuckle 44. Now what you need to look at is the ends of your housing and see if the ends are softball size or volleyball size.
The softball size one is a light duty (3300lb GAW) I think?
The volleyball size one is a med duty (3500lb GAW) if it is a 44
The volleyball size one with a 60 is heavy duty (3800lb GAW)
