I had a 73 and switched to electronic ignition. Never had a regret. If you go into the electronics section, someone could probably tell you the exact year systems that will drop right in. One thing I note in difference between points and electronic ... when I ran my Fords with points, I could tune them to the finest degree. One click of the ignition and the engine was running. Electronic ignitons seem to want to crank the engine longer to start it. Maybe that's only the way it happened for me. My new truck starts perfectly every time, but not an instant start like I got with points.
If you're tired of continuous tune-ups, adjusting the points..go electronic. I was at the point where I thought the manufacturers of points, were making the rubbing block soft, so it would wear faster, hence need replaced or adjusted faster. But then, I've been noted to have a pretty good imagination too.
Oh.. and if you aren't racing or anything...stock Ford electronic ignition is fine.
I put in the electronic ignition new blaster coil and ford blue 8mm wires
new spark plugs and adjusted timing and she runs better than ever.
I could not find the timinig decal so I called around and got six degrees before tdc and then I advanced it 3 degrees it seems to be working.
I love this truck it is my first old bronco I still have my 86 and 92 but I love my 73.
The truck is all stock other than the new ignition products I have put on.
Now I am looking at new carburetor.
Would I see A good deal of change if I put A 4bbl on or is it better to just leave it the way it is.
THanks TOM
