Sorry to go back so far in thread, but I just read this portin. I currently run AMS oil in my engine because the owner before me ran it. I get about 17 around town(6 spd.), and I have had any problems. I don't want to run a bad oil, but is ok to switch synthetics like that. From what I've heard its no good. I want to continue running a synthetic oil any suggestions?
The best oil out there,IMO, is Schaeffers 7000 15W-40 or their Supreme 9000
5W-40. It has all the right components neaded for a HEUI injector engine plus
their proprietary blend of liquid moly which helps keep the engine running cooler
and protects against wear.

Good Point.. If I Remember Correctly, The Mpg Steadily Declinded Not Long After I Installed The Filter.. What Sensors Would You Remove And Clean? Locations?
You don't have a MAF so I am not sure what sensor it would hurt.
I just read an article on fuel pressure in the 7.3. I didn't realize the PS's had a pressurized fuel bowl. I know on Cat and Cummins engines, the lift pumps can weaken resulting in poor fuel economy, but didn't think the Ford's had this problem.. Going to clean the sensors on the air delivery system and check the fuel pressure at the fuel bowl.. Maybe I just found my problem.. I'm getting a bit upset about my mileage after reading another forum where guys are saying they are getting 14-16 town and upwards of 20ish on the highway.. Any other suggestions? and, if anyone has any more info, good or bad, from the diesel techs, referencing AMSOIL, or any other synthetic.. send it my way.. I just don't want to spend the $$ for it then destroy an engine or cause other problems, if the oil is not up to standards for the 7.3. Thanks for everyone's help and ideas, greatly appreciated..
Cleaned two sensors (not sure what they are) with carb cleaner, then reinstalled. One is in the turbo tube and has a ceramic center wrapped with what looks like a spring. The other was at the bottom of the alum intake body, lookes like a small match-stick in a horse-shoe shroud. Sorry for know knowing what their proper names are... I also found the exhaust manifold pressure tube was clogged. It's now free flowing to the sensor... Any other suggestions?

Sounds to me like the Air Intake heater - not a sensor

Intake Air Temperature sensor? It's only a thermocouple so I doubt if cleaning it did anything.

If your EBPV sensor tube was clogged, could your EBPV be sticking? How does the exhaust sound when idling? Notice any hissing?
I don't recall any irregular noises or hissing...Only odd sounds it makes is on cold mornings when the RPM increases, sounds like an F-18 out the exhaust. Where exactly is the EBPV located? Will check it for proper operation.. I do appriciate everyones help on this..
I started to notice the MPG decline right after I installed my K&N Filter..........I think I am gonna go with the Quick setup........sa far the AMSIOL is doing great.
maybe you are starting the get the effects of winter-blend diesel. the winter-blend has the anti-gel additives in it, and the space that the Anti-gels' take up is space where BTU's are lost. less BTU's per gallon= less heat= less efficiency. whats your climate?
what do they blend with diesel for the winter? is it just like diesel kleen or some other fuel?
