Crazy Lights

The vehicle in question is a 2001 F-350. When I turn on my left turn signal the indicator and the front signal does the rapid blink. I know from past experience that this means a bulb or light assembly is bad. But if I plug in my trailer lights the indicator in the dash and the front signal work normally as well as the trailer lights work fine. With or without the trailer lights plugged in though I have no brake lights on that side and the rear signal lights will not work either. The truck does have a B&W custom flat bed with signal, brake, and backup lights in the headache rack as well as the rear of the bed. They are a one piece plug in light, no bulbs can be removed. The park lights also work fine with or without the trailer plugged in just won't signal or show brake. Thanks for the help I hope.

it sounds like a bad light. with the trailer pluged in, it has the proper load on the circuit, so it flashes normal. with the trailer off, it only has the front light, with a light power load, so the fast flash.

Do some lighting assembly swapping and investigation to see if the bulbs inside are good. You may want to swap them side to side. If the bulb assemblies are good, then I would start suspecting a grounding problem.

I am assuming you have three wires to a taillight assembly. One will be the running light, one the brake/turn, and the other a ground. Take a look at this ground and see where it's bolted. See if the connection is to a good clean part of the body. If that looks good, there may be a possibility the body does not have a good connection to the frame(rusty). If you suspect this, you could bolt a short jumper from the frame to the flatbed body.

I had tried the light swap already but did find the problem after chasing wire for an hour. It was a broken ground wire that had finally come apart. Thanks for the assistance from all.
