Bronco died
Bronco died
ok well what i thought was a good deal has been nothing but a pain in my ***. I got an 88 ford bronco II Eddie bauer edition for $600. The interior is perfect and the body is perfect other than a few minor dents in the hood. I got it cheap because the man that owned it said it needed a new brake line. It had a new fuel pump, computer, and alternator put on it before i bought it. Thinking that alone was worth the $600 i went ahead and bought it. So since my purchase, i fixed the brake line, put on new brake shoes and pads, new oil/oil filter, air filter, transmission fluid, hatch door latch, and fixed a few little odds n ends. I drove it to school the other day and back home and didnt have any trouble out of it. Drove it to work while ago and on my way home the engine died and now i can't get it to fire up again. I know its probably something simple but it was enough to **** me off. Anybody have any suggestions?
Did it just die when you were driving ?
I had that happen a few times and it was the ignition module. When it goes the engine will just quit where ever you are. It was quite dangerous for me because without power brakes, that thing was a bear to stop.
I've had it happen twice.
I believe they call it a TFI module, it mounted to the back of the distributor.
Might try that.

it's a cheap fix, not a real expensive part.
If that's the cause.

TFI module is certainly one possibility. My TFI module would leave codes in the computer (14 and 18 I believe) when it acted up. There are of course other possibilities, most either related to no spark (like the TFI module) or no gas (bad fuel pump, relay, or other, for example).
If it were me, I'd start by checking for spark at the plugs and check the fuel pressure and pull codes from the computer and see where that leads.
