Fast Orange seems to be good for getting rid of gas smell on my hands (unless you don't like the smell of Oranges!)

Dont use Simple Green, it will leave your hands smelling like it (not good). My gpa gave me something called Goop and it works real well.

If you can find a retailer for it, one of the BEST hand cleaners is called SWOOP. It's made by National ChemSearch div of NCH in Canada, and is listed by the Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety as an acceptable cleaner in the food equipment industry - so you know it's got to be safe to use. This stuff takes auto and marine grade grease off your hands & out from under nails like it was never there with very little scrubbing. It's also got lanolin in it to keep your skin from drying out.

Most of the time I use GOOP. I like to keep it around because it does a great job on clothes and doesn't leave that petrol order like GoJo does. Sometimes I also use fast Orange. I keep it in the kitchen so when I use it I not only get my hands clean, but it leaves a pleasant odor.

I discovered sort of by accident a good way to keep from making a mess in the kitchen sink. If I ever build another workshop or home, I will have outside washing facilities, including warm water... but for now I don't.

I just happened to have washed my truck and left the wash bucket out. I was doing some heavy dirty work, like under the front end, and got not only my hands, but my arms and elbows covered with greasy dirt. I Gooped it all down then went to the wash bucket, took out the bug scratcher, and washed down with it. Amazingly, all the dirt and grime came off in the bucket. No mess in the sink to clean. So now I have a fresh wash bucket handy when I start a dirty job.

Prevention is the only cure, gloves do the trick, I use all kinds, leather for the tough jobs and rubber ones for the jobs involving haz. chemicals

Chemicals took their toll on my hands, and I don't seem to heal as quickly as I used to, so these days I wear mechanix gloves. They take some getting used to, but they work well and prevent many cuts as well as keeping my hands clean.

Okay, who keeps digging up these old threads?

Anyway, I've heard shaving cream cuts grime pretty good. But I use pumice-free Fast Orange at home. At work, we got some gritty green stuff. And I use powdered nitrile gloves too.

I also wear Nitrile gloves. I have been a mechanic all of my 40+ years of work. Since I started wearing these the ground in grease on my hands have disappeared. And my fingernails stay clean. When I do clean up it is always with orange pumice hand cleaner. If you add a little petroleum solvent to the fast orange it really cuts the grease stains.

I use Fast Orange with pumice, seems to work ok. I need to have the pumice, the smooth stuff doesn't touch all the crevices in my hands.
Fresh ATF works really well to clean and condition your hands, found that out when I was rebuilding automatics.

I like this stuff too. Costco just had a smokin sale on it... About $8.50 for 4.7 liter jug/pump. And you don't need water, just a cloth to wipe it off.
