If you can find a retailer for it, one of the BEST hand cleaners is called SWOOP. It's made by National ChemSearch div of NCH in Canada, and is listed by the Canadian Center for Occupational Health and Safety as an acceptable cleaner in the food equipment industry - so you know it's got to be safe to use. This stuff takes auto and marine grade grease off your hands & out from under nails like it was never there with very little scrubbing. It's also got lanolin in it to keep your skin from drying out.

Most of the time I use GOOP. I like to keep it around because it does a great job on clothes and doesn't leave that petrol order like GoJo does. Sometimes I also use fast Orange. I keep it in the kitchen so when I use it I not only get my hands clean, but it leaves a pleasant odor.
I discovered sort of by accident a good way to keep from making a mess in the kitchen sink. If I ever build another workshop or home, I will have outside washing facilities, including warm water... but for now I don't.
I just happened to have washed my truck and left the wash bucket out. I was doing some heavy dirty work, like under the front end, and got not only my hands, but my arms and elbows covered with greasy dirt. I Gooped it all down then went to the wash bucket, took out the bug scratcher, and washed down with it. Amazingly, all the dirt and grime came off in the bucket. No mess in the sink to clean. So now I have a fresh wash bucket handy when I start a dirty job.
Winford:-)

I also wear Nitrile gloves. I have been a mechanic all of my 40+ years of work. Since I started wearing these the ground in grease on my hands have disappeared. And my fingernails stay clean. When I do clean up it is always with orange pumice hand cleaner. If you add a little petroleum solvent to the fast orange it really cuts the grease stains.
