Tried installing Autosprings...and....

Well long story short I couldnt remove the damn upper ball joint to enable me to get the strut out. The instruction says to "hit it with a hammer so that the vibration will pop the ball boint out and will enable me to get the strut out. We tried everything...The thing would not pop off..Hit it with a hammer after lubing it with PB Blaster, tried fitting a tie rod puller-failed, nothing....After 3 hours trying to figure ***** out, I quit....What did i do wrong?.

Go put the rubber mallet back in the tool box and get your largest brass hammer or borrow one. I have a 6 pounder that looks like a sledge with a short handle, one hit per side.

Try a puller. I didn't like the idea of pounding on my suspension so I used a pitman arm puller.

I have 06 SuperCrew 2wd with Autosprings 2inch level kit.

I opted to have it installed.
I went to a 'discount tire' type place on a weekday
when business for them was very slow. (I did goto a
higher end wheel/tire place and their estimate was
more like $280-ish (included install and full-alignment)).

Discount place charged me $50 for kit install, and $40
for the toe-in alignment/re-alignment. Total $90 out the
door. From what I've read, the alignment is important.

When both outfits read thru the Autospring instructions,
they both commented that 'hey, this is pretty simple'.

I did have to kinda watch the installer and ensure
he put the shim on top of the strut (he really wanted
to try and compress the strut for some reason).

For me, it was a good deal. Kit looks great.
Truck drives straight, and is very very level.

While I like to do things like this myself, when I added
up the time, and the tools I did not have - getting it
done made sense.

Im going to visit a Monro Mufflers to see if they can do it "off the books". Those employees love making some cash on the side and I usually get most of my work done that way. If not, I am going to give it a second try.

Lift it yourself....it is easy. Just use a small sledge, not a rubber mallet. Hint...Loosen the bolt but dont take it off all the way, leave the bolt on with a few threads... that way you can hit it as hard as you want and when it breaks free, it wont fall suddenly. The bolt should catch it. Like I said, it is really easy to install. Save the money for the allignment....I recommend a lifetime alignment with the $ you saved.

The only thing holding you back is your imagination. We carry a company called Force and they make step bars that are cut like flames! God I would hate to catch my shin on those babies! You would need stitches for sure. I have to tell you a new grill makes all the differance in the would. We carry like 8 differant brands and they are pretty cheap for what they do to the cosmetics. The aftermarket world is endless. I think you can get almost anything made out of Billit aluminum. Better shocks, wheels, bed cover or side rails. I think the next thing I do to my 05 F350 will be Sunvisor and a Hood, and whatever else I can get past my wife lol. You have pics of the truck now with the lift?

P.S. I just ordered a set of Carriage Works grill and bumper grill in Brushed aluminum. http://www.carriageworksinc.com/Ford.jsp

I paid $200 including shipping. I hope this grill is easy to install. I got the model 4201 and it requires so cutting...
