I recently put a c-6(that was a chore)in my 1970. I need to locate a auto steering column. My area seems to be fresh out of them. If anyone could help me out it would be appreciated.
Mike, are you just looking for a 70 model, anyone through 79 will work. It would be a great time to swap in the power steering too, if you don't have it.

LAST EDITED ON 01-Jun-01 AT 04:42 AM (EST)[p]If you want to keep things original looking then you can use any column from a 67-76. The 77-79 columns fit with no problems, but the collar is a bigger diameter and doesn't look original. Not a problem, but not stock looking. You can also (if you are lucky) find tilt columns out of the 78-79 trucks that will fit your truck. If you are located anywhere near the Middle Tennessee area I can give you the phone numbers of at least three places that have several columns that will fit your truck. I replaced the column in my 72 a few weeks ago and paid $50 for one out of a 76 that was in mint condition. I looked for a tilt column, but they are impossible to find around here. If you get REALLY desperate, I'll give you my old column, but it is in such bad shape that I can't imagine anyone wanting it. I don't know if it is true or not, but a guy at one junkyard told me that Ford vans from the early 70's used the same column as the trucks and that the 71-73 Mustang would fit although it wouldn't look anywhere close to stock. Hope this helps.
P.S. Just thought of one thing I should mention, the columns from the trucks with power steering and those without were different lengths. Make sure you get one that is the right length for your setup.
