if you want power get a 4.0 high output. we have a 96 cherokee classic with one and when you drop the hammer doin about 35 it lights the rear tires up. also i have taken that thing places i never thought it would go and it is bone stock, i have takein it up 30* muddy slopes into the woods and came out just fine, it even has street tires on it no AT or MTs.
Heres a tip: DONT BUY A JEEP. IMO, they are hyped-up, overrated and poorly made.
A few of my friends have had Wranglers and my parents used have a Grand Cherokee Limited, none of them impressed me.
I can't speak for the wranglers, never owned one,but the cj7 I have is dependable, and the 92 cherokee I bought with 162,000 miles and now has 175,000 miles is the most dependable vehicle I have ever owned, ford included. The only problem I have had with it is the starter, and when I took it off,it was the original,so I guess I can't really complain about that!!

The older CJ jeeps are pretty dependable. People complain about them breaking sometimes, but thats usually because they beat them pretty handily. They are some of the easiest vehicles I have ever worked on. Easy to get to pretty much everything, and there isn't much there in the first place. I love Fords, and thats all I own, but for a little 4wd, give me a CJ5 or 7 over a BII anyday.
I will agree, Wranglers and Cherokees are notorious for breaking down.
