1975 Hiboy t-case question

Hi everyone. Posted this several weeks ago in the 4 wheel drive forum but got no response. My dilemma is that I obtained a 1975 f-250 360, c-6, divorced 203 that was left in a field. The PO had removed the original transmission and replaced it with, I believe, a tranny out of a 2wd. The transfer case linkage is there but no shifter for transfer case or mounting hardware to mount shifter. I have not been able to locate another 4 wheel drive of this era in the vicinity so that I may find the shifter. Anyone have some advice, ideas? Anyone have diagrams/pictures of this setup so that I may better understand what I am up against?

Thanks in advance.

If you have an f250 hi-boy you should have the np205 t-case not the 203. Also if I'm not mistaken a 2wd tranny would be the normal setup when a divorced t-case is used. My digital camera is broke and I've been too lazy to buy anotherone or I would post some pics of my '73. I'll try to answer your question if I can. There should be a threaded hole on your transmission case near the shifter cutout in the floor. The shifter is basicly just a straight rod that bolts to the tranny and pivots at that bolt. The linkage pins on the shifter above the bolt I think but it may be below, I'll have to double check under my truck tommorrow when it's light and not raining outside. If you couldnt find a shifter rod it doesn't look like it would that hard to fabricate one. I could give you some measurements if you need them. Hope I helped some. If you have any more question just ask and we will try to help.

is it possible you received the truck without the original tranny? Maybe the PO put a C6 in and then realized there was no shifter hole. I have a tranny too, that maybe I can take a picture of, but it's out in the shed. Try looking on jeffs broncograveyard for the linkage parts.

The trans out put on a highboy trans has a bolt on yoke and not a slip type and the output housing is much shorter with a boss for the 4x shifter.I had a 75 and have a 77 high boy with the same arrangement. If you still need pics let me know and I will take some.

I have a 75 highboy complete rolling chassis w/o body and it has a Dana 24 case , as far as I can recall the 205 didn't come out until 76 but you could have a 203 but if you do the front hubs are probably not the freewheeling type. The 4wd divorce C6 has a casting that accepts a 3/4" bolt that runs through a lever and a link rod goes frombottom of that lever to a bar between the 2 shift rods on the Tcase.
That description works for the 205 and Dana 24 case. If my 75 Highboy isn't covered with snow, I'll get you a photo or two Sunday.

yep.. the c6 has the bolt and the 4 speed has a fixed post that comes off the side of the tailshaft housing... dollars to doughnuts its a 2wd tranny... i did the same swap on my crewcab to get the 4 speed and ended up changing it out when i found another 4 speed with the mount from a donor 4x4... it wouldn't be oo hard to fab up a bracket that came off the side of the tranny though- thats what i was gonna do before i found the other tranny...

68 merc, my '73 has a np435 tranny and a np205 t-case. both factory. build date is 10/72. I dont know for shure but have been told that hi-boys had only 205 t-cases. The f-150's had 203's or whatever else. Again I don't know for shure. Also alot of people refer to F-150's as hi-boys when a true hi-boy is a 250 only.

The highboys could come with either a 205 or a 203. I have a 77 with the 205 and a 76 with the 203. I have never heard of a 73-77 having a dana 24 but the 72 and older ones had them.

They could come behind either transmission, both of mine are c6's.

I have had 3 F250 4x4's, from 73 to 76, and every one of them came with a NP 205 T case. These were 4 speed and Auto alike. A friend of mine has a 73 with a 205 as well.
I have heard that there also were 203's available but have never seen them first hand. Take that for what it's worth. This is personal experience here, not speculation.

If you continue to get conflicting answers, contact Mil1on via e-mail or personal message feature. He has alot of good references and should be able to get the straight scoop for you.

I have cut up maybe 10 1973-1977 F250 highboys, and only the 76 and 77s have had 205 remote cases, I have had only 5 67-72 highboys and they all had the dana24. Of the 4 highboys (73-77) I still have 2 are crewcabs 73 and a 74 they are both dana 24 and the 75 single cab is a dana24 and the 77 is a 205. Does anyone here have a spec sheet for the highboys to clear this up. " Maybe the dana 24 case was really strong and the NP205s all blew up. " Yeah Right LOL

I have a 76 & 77 High boys. Both NP435's and NP205 T-cases. The NP203 only came on trucks with full time 4wd. The same goes for the F-150's from 77-79. It didnt make a difference if they were auto or manual tranny's. I dont know about the pre-76's and what was available since I havent had one.
